Andrea Marcon conducts the Venice Baroque Orchestra in The Messiah of Georg Friederich Händel, one of the most famous symphonic-choral operas and celebrated as the history of western music. In the splendid frame of the Scuola Grande of San Rocco, an oratorio designed only for choral and orchestral work, the opera recovers the dramatic events of the Old Scripture.
Biography of Andrea Marcon
Andrea Marcon studied harpsichord and organ, in which he graduated in 1982. He therefore graduated in antique music from the Conservatory of Basilea performing then with decorated musicians such as Ton Koopman, to mention one. He then obtained diverse international recognitions in Belgium, Austria, and Italy. He then began intense concert activity as a soloist on the harpsichord and organ as well as orchestral director. In 1997 based in Venice he collaborated with the Musical School of San Rocco and the musical ensemble Venice Baroque Orchestra with the intent of suggesting some masterpieces from the Italian Baroque period, long ago forgotten. This plan involved utilizing epic instruments or true copies of themselves. Thus he developed normally an intense activity of concerts with the Venice Baroque Orchestra as well as soloist and guest director of orchestras European, American, and Japanese. His research activity in the musical field brought him to rediscover some forgotten operas from the Baroque period, such as, Orion by Francesco Cavalli, Il Vespro di Natale (Christmas Vespers) by Claudio Monteverdi, l’Olimpiade by Domenico Cimarosa, La Morte di Adone (The Death of Adone), Il Trionfo della Poesia e della Musica (The Triumph of Poetry and Music) by Benedetto Marcello , and Andromeda Liberata by Antonio Vivaldi, just to list a few. In parallel in the operatic filed Marcon recorded with the Venice Baroque Orchestra a few symphonies by Vivaldi and with the great violinist Giuliano Carmignola some concerts for the violin never before recorded, again by Antonio Vivaldi, for the Deutsche Grammaphon and for Sony. Together with his musical activity developed an intense activity as teacher of the harpsichord and organ at the Basiliensis Cantorium School and he also participated as a teacher for different improvement courses in many cities around Europe. The group became established in Venice in 1997 by Andrea Marcon, in collaboration wit the Musical School of San Rocco, an old musical institution that dates back to the times of the Venetian School. The ensemble, with variable capable musicians from the repertory to perform, play using period instruments or copies of the older models. In just a few years the group acquired the favour of the public both national and international also acquiring numerous awards such as Diapason d’Or (the Golden Tuning Fork) and Echo Awards. The orchestra is regularly invited to the most important Baroque music festivals and partakes in long annual tours all over the world. The Orchestra has performed in concerts other than in Italy, in Germany, France, Holland, Austria, Great Britain, Spain, Portugal, Japan, the United States, South America and in many other countries in the world. They also recorded for Sony and therefore also for Deutsche Grammaphon. The Orchestra carried out an intense research of the composers of Italian Baroque Operas introducing diverse renditions of the works of which one remembers the oratory of Benedetto Marcello, The Triumph of Poetry and Music, the opera Orion by Francesco Cavalli, Andromeda Liberata and Nine Unpublished Concerts by Antonio Vivaldi with violinist Giuliano Carmignola. Other following works were Il Siroe by Georg Friedrich Händel, l’Olimpiade by Domenico Cimarosa, La Morte di Adone by Benedetto Marcello and Il Vespro di Natale by Claudio Monteverdi.
